Modeling Language Games

چکیده
A central belief of the learning sciences is that learning is situated within communities of practice. This paper demonstrates a method for modeling learning within an online discourse community as two intersecting phenomena: members’ trajectories of participation and change in the community’s language norms. Using the word2vec algorithm, a language model is trained on 12 million comments over a decade, capturing a snapshot every month. This paper replicates prior findings showing that users’ individual language stabilizes while community norms progress, until users depart the community. We also show how the discourse community’s word meanings shift over time with respect to relational axes such as gender and morality.

متن کاملRobust Opponent Modeling in Real-Time Strategy Games using Bayesian Networks
Opponent modeling is a key challenge in Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games as the environment is adversarial in these games, and the player cannot predict the future actions of her opponent. Additionally, the environment is partially observable due to the fog of war. In this paper, we propose an opponent model which is robust to the observation noise existing due to the fog of war. In order to cope...
متن کاملChallenges in Designing Domain-Specific Modeling Language for Educational Games
In this paper, we discuss the challenges related to the design of domain-specific modeling languages to design educational games. A domainspecific modeling language uses the vocabulary of the application domain and provides abstractions that make the specifications of solutions easier and more accessible for domain experts and end users. Although such an approach looks promising for involving d...
متن کاملA Modeling Language to Describe Reusable Learning Processes to Achieve Educational Objectives in Serious Games
Serious games combine motivational aspects of games with pedagogical approaches to enhance their players’ learning performance. A major challenge in serious game development is the proper alignment of concepts coming from the two domains, game development and pedagogy. As a consequence, creating successful serious games is difficult for single individuals only well versed in one domain, but not...
متن کاملSerious Game Development for Educators - a Serious Game Logic and Structure Modeling Language
Serious games play an important role in education. The interplay of education and gameplay induces to higher motivation of players and enhance their learning success. Serious games development implies programming knowledge and didactical knowledge. However educators are not able to develop such games on their own due to lack of programming and game design skills. In our research, we focus on a ...
